Amoxicillin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic of a semisynthetic group of penicillin. It presents itself as hydroxyl analog of Ampicillin. It renders a bactericidal action. It is active in the relation with aerobic gram-positive bacteria such as staphylococcus, streptococcus and aerobic gram-negative bacterium including Neisseria gonorrhea, Neisseria meningitides, Escherichia coli, Shigella, Salmonella, Klebsiella. Microorganisms producing penicillinase are resistant to amoxicillin. Between Amoxicillin and Ampicillin, there is a cross-resistance. The range of anti-bacterial spector is widening when is taken in combination with beta-lactamase inhibitor of clavulanic acid.
